As you plan your next big trip, there are some steps you are never going to forget, including packing, purchasing the plane tickets, and making your hotel reservations. However, it is just as important for you to think about how you are going to get to and from the airport during your trip. Fortunately, there are a lot of different modes of airport transportation that work nicely.

1. Family Member or Friend

The most affordable way to travel to and from the airport is to rely on a family member or friend who lives where you are traveling to. The main problem with this option is the potential strain it could cause in your relationship with a family member or friend if they fail to come and pick you up on time. Furthermore, you actually have to have a family member or friend where you are traveling to for this to be an option.

2. Public Transportation

Depending on where you are flying to, public transportation such as a subway, bus line, or railway system may be an option. It is not uncommon for larger cities to have public transportation lines running right near their airports in order to accommodate travelers.

3. Airport Shuttle Services

An airport shuttle is like public transportation. The only difference is that it is a service only offered to people coming and going from the airport. If you are traveling with a lot of people, you could save a lot of money by getting on an airport shuttle and splitting the cost. The only problem with this option is a lot of people on the shuttle means there will also be a lot of stops before your destination is reached.

If you are traveling at a strange hour or you have a lot of luggage, a shuttle is going to turn into a more expensive option than most people care for.

4. Taxi Service

Just about every airport has a taxi stand where taxis are just waiting to pick up travelers and take them wherever they want to go. This is a great option if you have a lot of luggage, are traveling at a weird time, or you just do not like riding with a lot of people you do not know. Taxis tend to be more expensive than modes of public transportation, but they can also be more comfortable.

The last and most expensive mode of airport transportation is renting a vehicle or hiring a driver. These are airport transportation options you only want to consider if you have a luxurious trip planned or if you are staying for a longer period of time.
